We are sorry to announce the death (on 3 Jan 2012) of Robin Tubb.
Robin was best known around the area as Bellman and Town Crier, a post he had held continuously for nearly 55 years from 1957.
He was Constable of the Town and Manor in 2006-2007, and had been an active Trustee since 1999, recently holding the special office of Buildings Secretary.
Robin was the fourth generation of his family to hold the post of Bellman, following his Great Grandfather Edward Bushnell, Great Uncle Sid Bushnell, and his Mother Jean Tubb. Robin was appointed in 1957, making him the longest serving crier in the world. In June 2007 he celebrated 50 years as Bellman and Town Crier, and 127 years by the same family.
