You are in [Freeman’s Marsh] [Public Events]

A message from Greg Furr, Constable of the Town & Manor of Hungerford:

Welcome to the Freeman’s Marsh summer events programme.  The marsh is one of the best places to see wildlife in the Kennet valley.

Over the winter months the conservation group has been hard at work scrub bashing and helping to restore the river. This is all part of a long-term conservation plan drawn up with Natural England and the Environment Agency. There will be more volunteer tasks in the autumn but for now relax and thank you for helping out on the tasks.

Thanks also to all those keeping your dogs on leads during the bird nesting season which runs from 1 March – 31 July. Please keep to the paths with your dog on a short lead in the area protected for wildlife between the river and the canal. You are welcome to exercise your dog off the lead on land between the canal and the railway.

Please enjoy the marsh in all its glory this season and we hope to see you out on the some of the fascinating events exploring our wildlife this summer.

Join Freeman’s Marsh Conservation Group

Freeman‘s Marsh Conservation Group aims to raise awareness about the marsh and enable local people to get involved in helping look after and manage the area.

There are plenty of opportunities to protect and enhance Freeman’s Marsh by helping out on a conservation task. You will make a real difference to the countryside, have fun, learn new skills, meet new people and help protect the Marsh.
